Dolphin v8.6: Synced and Connected

Screenshot_2012-07-18-08-50-35

Update 7/19: We have been working around the clock to get v8.6.1 to you today. Specifically for our EVO 4G and Android 2.3 devices users, this new update will fix a couple of the minor issues you reported. We are listening so please send us your feedback.

We would also like to say a very special thank you to our users for taking the time to give us tons of helpful feedback and beta reviews for v8.6. You rock!

So let’s take a look at what we are talking about:

1. Dolphin Connect gets more connected

From your tablet to your phone you can now sync:

  1. Tabs: Keep the tabs you are interested in open, no matter what device you’re on.
  2. History: Forgot what website you were on? Check your history, we even keep a record from over 30 days in the past.
  3. Bookmarks: Instant access to all your favorite sports, daily news and music websites.

How:

1. Connect your Dolphin with your Facebook or Google account. Settings > Account & Sync
2. Turn on Bookmark Sync/Tab Sync/History Sync
3. Go to Bookmark sidebar. Click the cloud sync button at the top left
4. Enjoy your bookmarks, tabs and history across all your devices

*NOTE: You can even check tabs you have currently open in other devices. History > “Other devices”.

Another concern we all had was that with your brand spanking new Android 4.0+ devices there were a couple of snafus. No problem. Check out the checklist below of our fixes.

2. Performance improvements and a full Dolphin scrub down.

Our check list to improved stability:

☑       Pinched to zoom on Android 4.1
☑       Flash on Android 4.0 in fullscreen
☑       Find on page on certain devices
☑       File saving on certain devices
☑       Text overlapping on certain devices
☑       Keyboard opening on certain devices
☑       Gesture on certain devices
☑       Open in new tab on certain devices
☑        Stability and performance improvement

Also we heard that some of you might encountered issues with Flash on v4.1 but unfortunately Adobe has discontinued support for all Andriod 4.1. We are sad to see this happen, but unfortunately is out of our control. Please read the official message from Adobe below.

*** NOTE:  FLASH PLAYER WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED ON ANY ANDROID VERSION BEYOND ANDROID 4.1

Check out this article for more information about Flash discontinuation.

So get synced and connected and
download Dolphin Browser v8.6.

As always, we love your feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@dolphin-browser.com or keep us posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks,
Team Dolphin

Great post. I used to be checking constantly this blog and I am impressed!
Extremely helpful information specially the final section :) I take care
of such info much. I was looking for this particular info for a very
long time. Thank you and best of luck.

  2. renn_man says:

A stupid question from me… where are the bookmarks stored at Google? I synced my dolphin bookmarks with my google-account afterwards I try to find it somewhere but neither Google+ nor drive, sites, etc. let me show them….

  3. Scott says:

“NOTE: FLASH PLAYER WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED ON ANY ANDROID VERSION BEYOND ANDROID 4.1″ Is Dolphin committing suicide? I love Dolphin but no Flash support is insane considering how ubiquitous Flash has become.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks for your comment, Scott.
As Flash Player is discontinued by Adobe, playing flash on Android 4.1 devices will cause Dolphin unstable.
If you want to watch videos, you can change User Agent to iPhone to watch them in HTML5 format.

  4. thiago says:

Is there a way to clear the “other device” history?? I. Using the same device but in diferent Android versions, and it still shows me the history despite all the wipes!

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thank you for your comment.
But I don’t really understand your question.
Do you mean that you can’t clear the history of other device on your current device even if you have wipe them off on that device?

  5. Debra Enfinger says:

I liked mini broswer, so I’m looking forward to using this. But one guestion. Why not have a toolbar across the top or side with drop down menu, everything in one place?

  6. Raymond says:

Wow beta 8.7 is 10x better than 8.6.1

A link on my default homepage referred me to download 8.7 beta, is this legit?

1 of the most attention-grabbing factor for this post
is not the advice which you have offered but is the style in which you have shown
the details. Impressive blog post. Continue the good work.

How do I delete current history?

  13. da1writer says:

I’m using a Cowon z2, newest firmware via their site. The agent doesn’t matter-mobile, desktop, iPhone, they all don’t scroll in the chat box on the site I mentioned. Which is strange as the beta allows me to scroll my chat box, what’s even stranger is that my Cowon z2 is the only android device in my home doing this. My Asus Transformer Prime doesn’t care what version of Dolphin, it across the iaudiophile forum chatbox just fine.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Hi.
Does the stock browser on your Cowon z2 have this problem either?

      • da1writer says:

Actually, besides your Dolphin beta and Firefox beta’s (stable, nightly, Aurora), no other browser has scrollable chat boxes on my Cowon z2. On my tablet (Asus Transformer Prime Android 4.0.3), it doesn’t care what browser or certain, it just works automatically. It seems that my Cowon z2 is picky or it could be gingerbread or the new engines you and Firefox use in your betas (or a 3 hit combo of them all).

  14. Nik says:

    Hi there,
Please give dolphin users in one of the next updates the choice again to use flash, hence it still works with the stock browser (not chrome!) on jelly bean. Those who don’t want flash can disable it in the settings anyway. You had the choice since froyo with dolphin hd! Because I think android is for choice it’s (fortunately) not ios. Please reconsider it at least.
    Great work and kind regards
    Nik

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks for your feedback, Nik.
Because Flash Player is not compatible with Android v4.1, enabling it will affect the browser experience.
So we disabled it in Dolphin.
      Hope you can understand.

      • Mike says:

Can’t understand why you disabled flash support after 8.5.1 on JB – just because Adobe don’t officially support it, I have 8.5.1 on JB 4.1.1 and flash works fine (Nexus 7)

        • Dolphin Browser says:

          Thanks for your comment, Mike.
Enabling flash on JB will affect your browsing experience on Dolphin.
If you want to watch videos, we suggest you to change your user agent to iPhone to watch HTML5 videos.

  15. Justin says:

Updated to 8.6.1… crashed within a couple minutes.
    ATRIX 4G

  16. Josef says:

    Hi!
I really love your browser, using it on Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.1.1.
Unfortunately since last Update the address bar does not disappear when scrolling.
I really loved that behavior because it saved some space on the display and I wish it comes back…
    Thanks!
    Josef

  17. Justin says:

Locks and crashes within a couple page views. Can’t open bookmark side tab from second tab, must force close.

    Favorite browser, please fix.

    Motorola ATRIX 4G.

  18. Sunyata says:

I don’t know if just me or what. The new update is the worst. Freezing every couple of seconds, force closinh every couple of minutes…i can’t take it! Gonna reverse back to 8.5…sending from Samsung i5500 froyo 2.2

  19. da1writer says:

Websites chat boxes were scrollable in the Dolphin Beta but final release reverts back to the broken model. Try both the beta and final release of Dolphin on the iaudiophile.net/forums chat box (must sign up but it’s fast, code name yourself Dolphin). You’ll notice that the dolphins react to the chat box differently.

  20. da1writer says:

Hey guys, it’s me again. So… did you guys like the night mode add-on idea and are working on getting it on dolphin soon? Switched back to using Dolphin only but wife has to turn over to go to sleep because my screen is to bright despite it being at at the lowest brightness setting (is the reason). Night mode was an excellent add-on as it really allowed me to enjoy my web surfing without disturbing my wife, I’m sad that Margin has had that feature for a while and you guys don’t have it.Hopefully you guys will pop it out sooner or later.

  21. etuc45 says:

great job guys…looking forward for more interesting updates…
