Introducing Dolphin 7.0 for Android with Dolphin Connect – Now Available on GetJar

delphin

Who knew Dolphins could swim in the cloud? We’re excited to announce the launch of Dolphin 7.0 for Android, available for download today exclusively on GetJar.

So what brings Dolphin to the cloud? Today’s release marks the launch of Dolphin Connect, a new part of Dolphin Browser that enables you to sync your browsing preferences, bookmarks and gestures across all Android tablets and Smartphones (iOS on its way!) to access your most important content immediately, personalizing your browsing experience no matter where you are or what device you’re on.

In this new release, you’ll also find significant enhancements to Webzine, the most elegant way to explore, experience and interact with the web. We are now showcasing our community’s 16 most popular Webzine channels directly on the home screen, making it easy to access on-demand content even quicker. Webzine has also received a comprehensive facelift for easier navigation, a smoother interface and the ability to swap between Webzine, mobile or desktop view with the touch of a button in the address bar.

We’ve partnered with GetJar for the exclusive launch of these great new features. GetJar is a global app marketplace available in nearly 200 countries boasting over 2 billion downloads to date, and we’re excited to bring the newest version of Dolphin to such a diverse and global audience. Dolphin 7.0 for Android will be available in all other Android app marketplaces as of Sunday, October 23.

For the next 5 days, download the latest version of Dolphin Browser exclusively from the GetJar homepage or via the QR code below. And as always, we love to hear from you so please let us know what other features you’d like to see!

  1. John says:

I have donated, since last update I’ve get ads in speed deal. What is with donate and Enjoy Dolphin Browser (HD) without Ads! ? This is fraud.

  2. Matthew says:

Android 2.3.3. Droid X with Verizon’s last over the air update. Yes it is also an issue with the stock browser (also Skyfire). But it is not a problem with Angel,Miren, Firefox.

  3. Matthew says:

When I use swiping with the Flex T9 in the search/ address box of Dolphin, it only takes the last letter. It works fine in web sites, just not in the Dolphin search. This happens also for my wife using a Droid (I use a Droid X).

  4. Matthew says:

Nice browser, but can you get it working with the T9 keyboard?

  5. michal says:

I have to click the start button and configure dolphin each time i enter the app. It also seems to forget my settings. Both on dolphin hd and mini the newest ones availablr in the market.

  6. Claud Hutchkiss says:

Your blog is actually outstanding. Thanks for that.

  7. rd says:

will dolphin gd be getting the private browsing feature? Please do

  8. Tim says:

How do I edit my stored bookmarks on your dolphin connect server from a PC?

  9. Xan says:

I have just read the following story about Dolphin browser. Now if this is correct I’m very disappointed and you will already have this url as it describes how every url I visit (including https) are sent unencrypted to your server. I’m going to replicate the test described and if correct I’ll regretfully be uninstalling Dolphin browser and will advise others to do the same.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

Webzine performs an ancillary check to help improve formatting on the device. If you don’t like this feature, you can disable it. Dolphin does not store browsing history nor user personal information and we have never done so in the past. If you have any question or concern, please contact dolphin@launchsquad.com.

  10. Jonathan says:

Regardless of any criticisms you may be receiving in this post, I think it’s safe to say that this is the best mobile browser out there right now and it’s still getting even better all the time! No other mobile browser has the add-on market similar to the Firefox model like you (not even Firefox Mobile). Keep up the great job!

    • Dolphin Browser says:

With Dolphin HD for Android 7.0, we rolled out a handful of updates to our Webzine feature. One of these is a “Toggle Webzine” button to view your current webpage as a Webzine. We currently have around 300 Webzines, and it was necessary for the client to check the current user URL against a database housing these 300 Webzine columns, which is what has caused this concern. None of the URLs have ever been stored by Dolphin, but were being used to cross-index if a Webzine for the current site exists. If it does, the current site is immediately converted to Webzine format; if not, it remains the standard mobile site. Again, none of this process is stored on the backend of our servers. We’ll have a blog post up soon that will explain more.

  11. MentalCare says:

I love your browser. and I loved “Bookmarks to SD”. The only way to sync my bookmarks from Firefox WITH all my subfolders. It is not working on the new ver. af Dolphin 7.0. When will you be updating “Bookmarks to SD??? Or what do I do??
    Best regards

    • MentalCare says:

Now (yesterday evening) I was suddenly able to find “Bookmarks to SD” on the market AND IT IS WORKING, thanks to God and Dolphin.
      Now everything’s fine again.
Thank you and goodbye to Firefox for Android. Dolphin is all I need – it’s the best browser WITH ALL my bookmarks from my PC.
      Best regards

  13. Toria says:

This app is great, and I love the update that allows me to back up my info. However, I would like to mention the ad you guys have for a task killer. I work in a Sprint corparate store with a repair center, and we strongly advise against task killers, antivirus, and battery savers, because they are known for causing a lot of problems. These type of applications stop processes that the phones need to run, such as the touch input process, and can cause powercycling (the phone rebooting on its own) and other issues. The only way to truely stop a phone from being damaged after downloading such apps is by doing a factory data reset, wiping it back to factory default settings. This often results in a loss of information.

    Thanks for listening,

  14. Aron says:

    Hello,

Please make version which does not require the “autostart at system load” permission!

Dolphin is the best, but I would not update to the autostart version…

    Thanks and regards!
    Aron

  15. Alan says:

I don’t use the cloud feature on my phone, but have noticed since the last update that C2DMService is running and can’t be closed, why is this? As app’s are updated frequently and potentially more RAM utilised in the process, available RAM becomes a necessity. Previous questions regarding this issue have yet to be answered comprehensively. The process can be seen in Settings/Applications/Running services and is using around 7MB.

  16. Majorcritis says:

Thanks for responding …..the model is droid x you can see in apps manager the cdm2 thing is running its in the permissions u ask for as well. Go to most any page cnn.com for one. its become painful to use. The op is 4.3.3 @4.5.605 also having keyboard issues. If I knew how to relay the info your looking for I would but im merely an unrooted stock user lol….oh the adware is killing me….also I can recommend a good translator.. Its dissapointing such a good browsers image tarnished by poor translation

  17. danny says:

    Not available for Motorola Xoom?!!!

  18. lion says:

    Is this spyware?

    これはスパイウェアですか?

  19. Jim says:

In aol mail the tabs automatically disappear is threr any setting in 7.0 to stop this or is this a mail.aol.com problem?

  20. nicolino says:

how do i restart again the sync connection on my installation of dolphin for pad?

  21. Anonymous says:

How do I stop the c2dmservice from running in the background. Even though I have not registered for a Dolphin account or linked using google/fb. It still runs the service in the backgroun.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks for your report.
Can you tell us where you check it running in the background?

      • Tninety says:

I am running on 2.3 Android, HTC Desire… the Notification service runs in the background always. This can be seen via Settings->Applications->Running Services. Even after full exit the service keeps on running mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser.DolphinNotification.

  22. Troubled says:

Im upset you ignored my issue, and removed my post. Until the problems I brought forward keyboRd issues and battery issues….misplaced links poor site load…….that werent there in the 6. Versions….. Im uninstalling….

    • Dolphin Browser says:

Hi, what problem do you have?
Can you explain it more clearly?
If you think we dismiss your comment, you can send your feedback to support@dolphin-browser.com.

      • Bart says:

I agree.. i haven’t seen any of my posts removed yet (though i don’t usually check), but i think customer support should be a bit better. I’m genuinely wondering what the marketing goals and strategy of the dolphin team are. Or the marketing manager is not doing a very good job, because i am an unsatisfied customer so to speak… I have now temporarily moved over to the latest Opera Mobile, and even that one has a couple of flaws and issues if you’re a “power user”, but fewer than dolphin has. Still have dolphin installed, but i’m basically waiting for a next major update to get me to use it again on a daily basis.

  23. Mike says:

Why does v7 autorun as well as run as a background service? A web browser should only function when I tell it to, not on its own. If I close a program that means I DON’T want it running, not running in the background out of my control. Sorry to say this will be the last version of dolphin I use until this glaring security hole is fixed!

  24. tk says:

The Mobo task killer link on your speed dial page is very deceptive. It is an ad you disquised to not look like an ad. You should be reported for deceptive advertising to the FTC.

  25. iron2000 says:

Would be good if C2DMService doesn’t run even after exit.
And I don’t use Dolphin Connect.

  26. Rocker93 says:

Is it gonna be possible to stop synchronizing to cloud? Background process uses lot of RAM and it’s especially unpleasant, that I don’t even use the synchronizing tool, it’s just always on, whether I am logged in to Dolphin account or not. Thanks for response.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks.
Can you tell us your device model and firmware version?
And where do you check the RAM? Did it happen when you fully exit Dolphin?

      • Rocker93 says:

On HTC Desire Z, official ROM with Sense, latest update, Android 2.3.3. It uses from 5 to 8MB of RAM, I checked it in background processes, it is running even if I fully quit the Dolphin Broser HD. Because of high memory usage of background processes Sense UI keeps rebooting itself and this particular process is, in my opinion, pretty useless, when I don’t even use it.
        Thanks for your support.

  27. majorcritis says:

Interface is terrible! “jerky” when sidescrolling to bookmarks. page links are misplaced……i wish I had stayed on the previous release. Battery hog … Was upset by the early rating. Feel like im missing out on something because I wont let the spy cloud have my data…..lol ..no seriously this browser was UNMATCHED until now… come on dolphin im rooting for you I know you can do it right! Right now im thinking uninstall, sad .

I was excited to see the cloud sync feature, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make it work. I signed up for the account. Got the confirmation e-mail and clicked on the link. Then signed in using my tablet. Now what? It just shows that I am signed in, appears to have no option to sync. Menu button does nothing. I thought maybe it is just syncing in the background, so I started Dolphin HD (7.0) on my phone and signed in. I got the same screen I have on the browser, no options to do anything. The gesture settings, webzine choices, bookmarks, etc are different from my tablet. What is the trick to making it sync. Not at all obvious to me. thanks in advance

  30. Billy Shannon says:

There’s no catching this dolphin in a net. You need a cloud catcher to slow this dolphin from making vapor trails.

I had to remove Dolphin HD from my Asus Transformer after it updated to the newest version.

Even after exiting it kept displaying a crash dialog in all the apps I went into. Very hard to watch a video, or do anything really when every minute or so a popup takes over the screen.

Also the “Rate our App” pop up that showed up shortly after the update, with no option to ignore really left a bad taste in my mouth.

  33. Chris says:

today all dolphin add ons have disappeared from the android market since downloading dolphin browser hd. please can you clarify the situation

  34. Jim says:

Like Bart and others who have the sme issues and so I don’t have to keep on repeating my self. Your dolphin mini and previous versions of dolphin have had this problem. Ive emailed can copies of email if you wish, and posted to no advail. Here is the web address of dolphin mini with all the explanations I have giving dolphin on numerous occasions. It will give you the information you keep on asking for….

I’m sure the new persistent C2DM background service may be useful for those who want it, but can you make it OPTIONAL for everyone who doesn’t want their browser listen to the cloud when they’re not using it?

1* in the market until you add a toggle for C2DM in the settings.

I wanted to create Dolphin account, but I did not receive confirmation mail for more than 4 hours. And yes, I checked also junk folder. And also repeated mail request.

  38. IAF says:

Are you kidding me? First it’s the android market which never works, now this getjar store I have to download an extra app just to get close to your browser? You have to make things hard for others or it will kill you, right?

  39. Jim says:

Even though reuters.com is part of the webzine, you still can’t properly fill out the posting box on the website. Google also doesn’t scroll when you fill search bar. Would have like to see Dolphin address these issues.

Would like to be able to have the option of always showing the tabs, like in dolphin mini.
Would like to be able to zoom in on mobile like this one.

Basically not to much difference, don’t see it as 7.0 should be more like 6. Somthing really not a major update just some refinments and minor enhancements.

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks for your report, Jim.
Can you explain your problem on Reuters and Google more in detail?
As for your feature requests, we will see whether we can incorporate them into Dolphin.

  40. Manojr Tiwari says:

Nice to see this new version with new features of my favorite browser.
But its very irritating to first open getjar link and than need to download getjar app first to download dolphin browser!
Don’t we have a direct link or without download getjar app first?
Just in love of dolphin browser I downloaded it too.

  41. John Bray says:

I’m confused about all the different Dolphin versions and how they interact. I have HD and Pad ones, but they don’t share bookmarks or Speed Dial. Are there plans for convergence?

Also Dolphin HD crashed twice today, and lost all my tabs, you need a restore on restart feature like Firefox.

Yeah, GetJar makes the download a true pain in the @rse. Would not recommend using them as a partner in the future. The instructions they provided for me to get the app on my phone failed. I could not type my phone type into their pop-up fast enough before they’d drop the onscreen keyboard and try to “interpret” what I was typing, selecting the icon from the list they provided was dodgy, going “back” popped me back to my QR reader instead of their site. Then they popped up an incomplete message telling me to go to their website and select a link that did not exist on their website!

It wasn’t until I launched their site from the stock browser, then downloaded their stupid app (which I will delete as soon as possible), that I was finally able to get the new Dolphin browser.

They could have shortcut that entire time-consuming, frustrating and impossible process by simply making me download their stupid app in the first place. Please send this feedback to them and shake your fist at them while you’re at it.

Now maybe I’ll get to try the new Dolphin browser? Looking forward to it.

Hi, thanks and credits for the new version. Was very excited when I read 7.0 but quickly disappointed again when I saw the only update/new feature are ones that I won’t use at all. Also disappointed that a lot of bugs and issues still haven’t been fixed. Even typing this message in Dolphin HD 7.0 is a real pain, such a simple thing, why?? And why then give priority to these (in my opinion) not so very useful changes made in 7.0. But still thanks and credits, just hope dolphin will get there some day, rather sooner than later!

    • Dolphin Browser says:

      Thanks, Bart.
Dolphin v7.0 does not only add new features but also have improved performance.
If you are stilling getting some performance issue, please write it in detail and report to support@dolphin-browser.com.

      • Bart says:

Thanks sir, but i have already done that, and i did receive replies to them, but nothing of the list i made has been fixed or added yet, after many months. I know i can’t complain because dolphin is free, but I’d rather buy the app and get proper support then this situation where i report things like 10 times, and still nothing of the bad behaviour is fixed in the new dolphin versions…
